Bet on underdog to win half time, favourite to win full time
What if we bet on the underdog to win half time, but favourite to win full time?
Hey Friend,
Are you excited for our new football betting strategy test this week? Take a look below!
💡 Strategy
This strategy is easy to follow. We place bets on both the half-time and full-time results. Specifically, we bet that the underdog will win the first half, but the favourite will win by the end of the game.
Here's how it works:
For each game, if the favourite has odds of 1.3 (3/10) or shorter to win, we bet one unit that the underdog will win the first half, but the favourite will win by full time.
Example from Round 1 of the 2023-24 Premier League Season:
Arsenal vs. Nottingham Forest: Arsenal is the favourite, and the odds for them to win are 1.21 (21/100). These odds are shorter than 1.3 (3/10), so we bet on Nottingham Forrest to win the first half and Arsenal to win by full time.
Burnley vs. Man City: Man City is the favourite, but the odds for them to win are 1.39 (39/100). These odds are greater than 1.3 (3/10), so we skip this game and do not bet on it.
📈 Stats
On average, the favourite team wins 59% of the time in the Premier League.
Betting on favourites can work well, especially if we find ways to get better odds. For example, we could bet that the favourite will lose the first half but then come back and win by the end of the game.
⭐ Testing
We tested this strategy over the past season of the English Premier League (2023-24). Starting from Round 1, we bet £10 on each game where the favourite to win had odds of 1.3 (3/10) or lower. We placed our bet on the underdog to win the first half, but the favourite to win by the end of the game.
For the 2023-24 season, we placed bets on 41 games. We won 10% of those bets, making a net profit of £525.60, which is an ROI of 128%.

🚀 Bet Or Regret?
Betting on the underdog to win the first half and the favourite to win by full time when the favourite had odds shorter than or equal to 1.3 (3/10) worked really well in our tests. Even though we didn’t win a lot of bets, we managed to get a great return on our money. So, we think you might want to BET following this strategy.
